Root Canal Retreatment
A second chance to save a tooth when earlier treatment has not healed.
In some cases, root canal therapy fails to work as expected. Root canal retreatment is a second chance to save your tooth.
Why retreatment may be needed
A tooth that has had root canal treatment may not heal, or may develop new problems, when:
- Narrow or curved canals were not treated during the initial procedure
- Complicated canal anatomy went undetected
- New decay exposes the root canal filling to bacteria
- A cracked or leaking restoration lets bacteria back into the tooth
How retreatment is performed
We reopen your tooth, clean your canals, and carefully examine the inside of the tooth under the operating microscope. We fill and seal the canals and place a temporary filling in the tooth. You then return to your dentist for a new crown or restoration to regain full functionality of the tooth.
